On the blogs.technet.com article on microsoft.com's infrastructure:
The article reads like a blatant ad for it's own products, and is light on the technical side.

- Cytrix Netscaler (= loadbalancer with various optimizations)
- W2K8 + IIS7 and antivirus software on the webservers
- 650GB/day ISS log files
- 8-9GBit/s (unknown if CDN's are included)
- Simple network filtering: stateless access lists blocking unwanted ports on the routers/switches (hence the debated "no firewalls" claim).

It appears they pulled the post. Someone at MS must not have been pleased with either the content of the post or the reaction it was getting. I'd love to see a copy of it if anyone has a pointer.
It's IIS, not ISS.. sending bits to space and back would suck.
It was indeed a typo, not a suble jab at IIS performance/latency ;-)
I couldn't recover it from my firefox cache, but it wasn't very pretty.
In my opinion it was either some very naive journalism or just a plug for their os/webserver system and the "no firewalls" line...

Thanks, I updated the link. And they certainly had a firewall as port blocking and DDOS filtering is pretty firewallish to me.
I would doubt it was "Citrix", but I am curious about their load-balancers..
I'd like to see information on how many hits each server is actually able to handle.
