High Definition Video Delivery on the Web?

How would you architect and implement an SD and HD internet video delivery system such as the BBC iPlayer or Recast Digital's RDV1. What do you need to consider on top of the Lessons Learned section in the YouTube Architecture post?
How is it possible to compete with the big players like Google? Can you just use a CDN and scale efficiently? Would Amazon's cloud services be a viable platform for high-definition video streaming?

Do you have experience with http://www.wowzamedia.com/">Wowza Media Server? It promises H.264 but it is not clear if it supports HD video delivery.
I have found an impressive http://blogs.sun.com/bmseer/entry/wowza_media_sun_storage_7210">benchmark with Wowza and the Sun Unified Storage 7000 systems. The Sun Storage 7210 Unified Storage Array in striped configuration can stream more than 735 MB/sec (mirrored 752 MB/sec) video to deliver 5,880 videos randomly selected from 54,000 1 Mb/s streaming rate video files (in FLV format).
I wonder if it could support ~2000 HD streams @ 3Mbit/sec?

Project Home surpassed 1 million views in 9 days! I expect most of them are HD. It means about a PB (petabyte) network traffic given the 2000 kbit HD stream and the 93 minutes of the HOME movie.

The question is then: How would you architect and implement a 3D HD internet video streaming delivery system? For 3D the main difference is the player only and not the whole system architecture. But the user experience could be much better with a proper 3D display (not red blue glasses).
